The Ubiquitous Culprit

has unmistakably been the System. But is it, really? In his fragments of memorialistic literature  RF - like many of his companions who were trapped on the shabby, screeching  carousel of history for most of their life- exposes the organization, the inner and outer workings, the fine tunings, self-corrections and lesser known predicaments of the oppressive system.  A bestiary with human faces entertains a system of actual pulleys and metaphysical buttons meant to numb any semblance of spontaneity and free will. Perfect compliance with the system is the ultimate goal. However, as mindful as its minders could be, as subversive their means and modes, absolute compliance remained wishful thinking. Apart from the routinized indomitable resilience of the human spirit, what stood out was a minimized reliable ally: time. If the System failed it was sensibly due to poor timing. He gives countless examples of diminished vituperance and muffled blows resulting from known and unknown temporal errors. From this wide angle, timing is, indeed, everything. What is often unseen is the saving grace of this ubiquitous culprit.
